Thompson Dean, a co-managing partner of the private equity firm Avista Capital Partners, leads the company in making middle-market control buyout and growth investments in the energy, media, and healthcare sectors. Prior to co-founding Avista Capital Partners, Thompson Dean spent ten years as the managing director of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners.

Mr. Dean holds a bachelor of arts in economics and foreign affairs from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar and graduated with high distinction. A former member of the College Foundation board of the University of Virginia, he also served as chairman of the Special Projects Committee of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Currently, he serves on the boards of Acino International AG and Trimb Holding AB. Active within his local community, Mr. Dean is a member of committees in organizations such as the Boys Club of New York and the Lenox Hill Neighborhood Association.
